Social network Twitter announced a new two-step verification system for it's users last week, followed by LinkedIn's release of two-step verification yesterday.
What is two-step verification? It's an extra measure you can take to better secure your account. Once you enter your username and password, you will be sent a code via text message. Enter that code from your phone onto you screen and you're in!
Two-step authentication helps to ensure it's really you trying to get into your account. So... should you enable this feature?
I personally don't find it necessary for the average person to enable the two-step login process. If you have a strong and securely kept password (like millions of others) then you're in pretty good hands.
However if you are that person with ten different email addresses, has allowed hundreds of applications access to your accounts such as Facebook and Twitter apps, falls for emails requesting your passwords, or have a big internet presence, then I would recommend turning on the two-step authentication system.
It's better to take the extra measure before your password gets into the wrong hands. And with our lives integrated so heavily into the internet, it's important to keep your passwords safe as it is with keeping your house keys held tight in your hands.
You can enable two-step verification today for services including Gmail, Apple Devices and Twitter.

The only people that need a 2-step verification are celebrities, that have something to lose if their account gets hacked.
